6/22/2019 0 Comments 3 Reasons You Need a HeadshotI get it - headshots are weird, right? They don't have to be! You can even get a little creative. The thing I love about headshots is this is an opportunity for you to pinpoint exactly how you want to be perceived. Check out this quick guide as to why you should think about getting some good headshots! 1. Career shifts This one is a no brainer, and I've experienced this myself! When I entered the workforce straight out of college I honestly believed I wanted to work in corporate America. One of the first things I did was suit up in a a blazer, curled my hair, threw on some pearls and said "let's do this"! And guess what, that headshot helped me look a hell of a lot more professional than I probably was. That being said, I did go to work in corporate America and it 110% was not for me. I'm so thankful for that learning experience and the next time around, I made sure to really think about who I wanted to be and what fit my personality. When I decide to shift to digital marketing at an agency, not only did I adjust my resume, I updated my headshot to be a more true representation of how I present myself - and THANK GOD I did! I felt more myself and that made me feel so much more confident. That confidence helped me find the company I work for now and I couldn't feel more myself. 2. Networking Purposes A lot of people are terrible with names, but great with faces. Having a good headshot can really help as you network in your industry. Platforms like LinkedIn make this an even smaller world and building your network full of helpful, talented people is key in growing your business! Make sure you're representing yourself well while you're out in the field building relationships! 3. Publications & Features I have so many friends and colleagues working hard in their respective industries and being featured in blog articles or large publications but they scramble to find a decent photo last minute. This usually results in them finding a photo from a friends wedding 3+ years ago where they crop out their significant other and send it on through. Don't be that person. Having 2-3 updated quality photos can be a life saver for these moments. You want to be taken seriously when you get these moments to shine - don't sell yourself short. In the end, getting some updated headshots will never hurt! Whether it's through Hyde&Co or another local photographer, please, please, please get your headshots done! You've worked hard to get where you are, so don't let one bad photo slow you down!
